エラーコード SFRNが生成するグリッチとポップの狭間の世界。antennasia 20年目の通過点。

エレクトロニカ、ダブ、ロック、アンビエントなど、様々な要素を内包しつつも、実はどこにも属することのない音楽を作ってきたsan (vocal, track)、Nerve (track)によるユニットantennasia。その結成20周年にアルバム「Error Code : SFRN」はリリースされる。世の中にも個人の思考や行動にも存在するエラーやグリッチをテーマにした本作は、ソング・ライティングに軸を置いた楽曲の比重が増し、sanのヴォーカルを中心に据えた重心の低いサウンドに、Klaus NomiやVisageなどの80sのニューウェーヴ/シンセポップのエレメントが加わったカラフルなアルバムとなっている。

シューゲイザーの要素も取り込んだ"Sounds like Sunshine"、アンドロイドによる贖罪の祈りをエレポップに乗せた"Tapping on my Skin”、力強いダブ・エレクトロ"Beyond the Dust”、食材・サフランの目線で書かれたミディアム・ソウル”Dedicated to Saffron”、知覚の変化を、密室的な音響からアンセムへの展開で表現した”Hate or Love”、パンキッシュなガラージ”Dirt in Blue”、暗闇の中の光を歌ったサイケデリック・テクノ”Kaleidoscope in the Dark"、自然の静謐とカーニヴァルの狂騒が交錯する"Because It's Invisible"、8分に及ぶシュールな小組曲"Carried Away by the Noise”。9つのピースで構成された外へと向かう力を感じさせるアルバムとなっている。一処に止まらないantennasiaが20年目にたどり着いた、もうひとつの通過点。 

“antennasia” is comprised of san (vocal, track) and Nerve (track), who have been creating music that includes various elements such as electronica, dub, rock and ambient, but does not actually belong in any single genre. Their latest album “Error Code: SFRN” will be released on their 20th anniversary year, with the theme of errors and glitches that exist both in the world and in personal thoughts and behaviors. Their songwriting and tracks have light and bright ambience with 80’s synth-pop-like sounds and a heavy low-end centered on san's vocals. The album consists of nine pieces: ”Sounds like Sunshine" which incorporates the elements of Shoegazer-style, "Tapping on my Skin" which is an android’s prayer on synth-pop sound, "Beyond the Dust” which incorporates heavy dub-electro, “Dedicated to Saffron” sung from a saffron's point of view, “Because It's Invisible” where nature's silence and carnival frenzy intermingle, an 8- minute electro-suite “Carried Away by the Noise” along with “Hate or Love,” “Dirt in Blue,” “Kaleidoscope in the Dark.” This marks a triumphant landmark as the never-tiring Double Life duo move into their 20th year.

「音源と一緒に送られて来たメッセージに、今回はソングライティングに重きを置いた旨が記されていたのを目にした時、antennasiaの大きな魅力はどこにジャンプするか予測不能なsanのある種アノミーなボーカルにあると思っている僕は、正直「それはどうかな？」と心配したのだった。

が、そんな要らぬ心配は一聴して消え去った。

トラックの音色を含めて80’sエレクトロポップの要素がふんだんに盛り込まれた今作であるが、僕には80’sのポップなエレクトリック・ミュージックよりも、当時の音楽シーンの既存フォーマットを解体、分解して再構築することに通じたパンクのスピリッツに似たものが聴こえてくる。差し詰め、エレクトロ・パンクといったところか。

Nerveの、ソングライティングに重きを置いた新境地、というメッセージから安易に大衆音楽のソングライティングをイメージした僕だったが、実際にはクラシックのそれに通じる曲構成、編曲（ボーカルアレンジを含む）までを含めたソングライティングなのだろう。

楽曲を牽引する力強いsanのボーカルは不変ながら、たしかに新しいantennasiaがここにある。」

antennasiaが、最初から終わりまで良く編まれたアルバムを届けてくれた。Nerveとsanによるトラックは、天上のアンセムから、マイアミのクラブの朝8時のアフターアワーズへと導くブラック・ドッグ風のリズムまで幅広い。それらは多様で、ほんの少しメイシー・グレイ風のsanのヴォーカルによって縫い合わされ、2030年の洗練された仙台／日本にルーツを持っている。フューチャー・ジャパンだ。

「夜の空気が停滞した部屋で再生ボタンを押すとantennasiaの空気に包み込まれる。あえて歌詞を聞かせないミックスや多重録音によって、ボーカルsanの声はテクスチャとして音を彩る。サウンドはニュー・ウェイヴやゼロ年代エレクトロを彷彿とさせるが再解釈され用いられ、ダンサブルに寄りすぎないリズムと共に絶妙なバランス感覚で現代的に構築される。現代の音楽は様々な文化や流行による分岐点を通り現在の姿になった。Error Code: SFRNはある分岐点から異なる道を選び、あり得たかもしれない音楽の現在を提示しているのかもしれない。」
